What do you think about the iraq why getting 3 years for throwing a

Shoe at bush do you think he should have gotten that long in prison for just throwing a shoe at someone

Answer #1

He threw a shoe at Bush. He should be considered a hero no matter how bad an insult it is to anyone anywhere.

Answer #2

No - I think it’s a little extreme.

Answer #3

Personally I do not agree with violence but still I don’t think he should have got that long. Personally I believe Bush should be the one in jail for so many reasons but that’s anther story…

Answer #4

As a sign of good faith, Bush should have ordered the charges dropped.

Answer #5

Yes because in that country throwing your shoe is like shooting someone here it is a serious ‘crime’ there.

Answer #6

That was a decision for the new Iraqi government / court system to make and they made it - those types of acts cannot be endorsed when a visiting Head of State is involved.

Answer #7

…and a basic point is a cultural one:

In Muslim (and many other) cultures, the feet are extremely ‘unclean’ (in a ritual sense). So in that context, throwing a shoe at someone is one of the worst possible insults.

Remember the photos of Khruschev banging on the UN podium with his shoe? Many journalists missed the point - he too was demonstrating an extreme insult.

I’m not saying that the sentence wasn’t extreme - but it has to be understood in the way Iraqis and others in the Muslim world would see it.

Answer #8

What if I threw a shoe at Obama? People would be calling for an execution. Let go of the fact that you hate Bush and realize you are throwing an object at a leader of a country. I would GLADLY take 3 years for the opportunity to thow a shoe at Obama, where do I sign?
