What would happen to an unborn baby with chemo?

I have a severe kidney disease, and am receiving chemotherapy for it. I made the horrible mistake of having unprotected sex. I’ve been having symptoms of pregnancy. It was about a week and a half ago..I get my next chemo treatment on the 7th of Jan. What will happen to the fetus?

Answer #1

Tell you’re doctor before you do anything and let them confirm whether you are pregnant or not. Then go from there.

Answer #2

While there have been case reports of health babies born to women who underwent chemotherapy during the first trimester, there is a potential risk for birth defects. The risk for birth defects to occur is greatest when the fetus is exposed to chemotherapy during the first trimester of pregnancy. This is because the first trimester is when many of the internal and external structures of the fetus are formed, and it is a period of rapid cell growth. Since chemotherapeutic drugs interfere with cell growth and division, the fetus is most vulnerable during this period of time. Exposure to chemotherapeutic drugs during the first trimester may also increase the risk for miscarriage. Therefore, whenever possible, chemotherapy is avoided during the first trimester of pregnancy. The risk for birth defects is less when chemotherapy is administered in the second or third trimester. With a few exceptions (such as the brain and the reproductive system), most fetal organ system development is completed by the beginning of the second trimester. However, exposure to chemotherapeutic drugs in the second and third trimester has been associated with a greater risk for premature birth, low birth weight, and a temporary reduction in some of the baby’s blood cells.

Answer #3

You need to tell the doctor and they’ll do a blood test to confirm if you are or are not. Then they will give you the options, tell you the possibilities of what could happen…and tell you if you’re even healthy enough to carry the child in the first place. Chances are that at this point in time you are not healthy enough to carry a child because your body is fighting a disease…the symptoms you’re feeling could also be caused by the chemo.

Answer #4

most likely the fetus will die, miss carriage. that would actually be the best thing to be honest. it would most likely have some type of birth defect and thats just a horrible way to go through life which sucks

Answer #5

first, you have to tell your if he doesn’t already know. if you are pregnant, the fetus will be harmed by the chem. the fetus feeds off what ever your body intakes.

Answer #6

It is highly unlikely you’d be experiencing pregnancy symptoms 10 days after sex. Take a test in 10 days, and worry about it then.
