What would be an okay score in golf?

Would a score of 53 be an “okay” score for a 9-hole game? For a 9-hole game what scores would be considered excellent, very good, okay, not good, and terrible? Same for 18-hole. thanks.

It depends on the course and tees played. Generally 9 hole courses are called “Executive Courses” and are composed of a mix of par 3 and par 4 holes. 18 hole course are comprised of par 3, 4, 5 & sometimes 6 holes.

In general playing from white tees, you are trying to get close to par for each hole. Most 18 hole courses that would be between 68 & 73. If a hole is a par 4 and you make the ball in 3 strokes you’ll be 1 under par or a birdie. Make it in 2 strokes and you’ll have an eagle. Make it at 4 and you’ve shot par, 5 and you’re 1 over or a bogey. Anything higher than bogey is a double bogey, triple bogey etc.

For amateurs, roughly scoring bogey golf is good. (Par for the course + a bogey for most holes.)
