What right do terrorists have?

This question is about 9/11, the attacks in madrid and london.

I watched the video of the attacks today and I thought what possible reason could these people have for bombing the rest of the world?

I mean they say they do it for religion… where in any of the holy books, does it say thou shall kill, it doesnt in any of them…

I’m sorry if this question offended anyone, but I would just like to understand why these horrid people did these horrid things.

Answer #1

“Terrorist attacks” have been happening since people first invented bombs. What’s interesting to me: Chinese people had powder to make fireworks.

“Western” people acquired it, and then invented weaponry unlike any that had existed before. Now, weren’t they the first terrorists?

Or the US, with the atomic bomb?

Regarding more recent history, though, it’s tragic anytime people feel the need to resort to extreme violence to get their message out. And I think anybody who does that is a zealot, and should probably be locked up for the good of the global village.

Presidents who order war should also be locked up, again, for the good of the greater global village, eg, Bush, Blair, etc. As they are personally responsible for more death & destruction than the people they call terrorists. Why aren’t they held to the same standards of human decency, I have no idea.

The Bible does not have instructions for murder.. the ten commandments say though shall not murder. askegg needs to read the bible again.”

Here’s a taster:

Leviticus

Both parties in adultery shall be executed. 20:10 If a man has sex with his father’s wife, kill them both. 20:11 If a man “lies” with his daughter-in-law, then both must be killed. 20:12 If a man has sex with another man, kill them both. 20:13 If you “lie” with your wife and your mother-in-law (now that sounds fun!), then all three of you must be burned to death. 20:14 If a man or woman “lie with a beast” both the person and the poor animal are to be killed. 20:15-16 People with “familiar spirits” (witches, fortune tellers, etc.) are to be stoned to death. 20:27 A priest’s daughter who “plays the wh*re” is to be burned to death. 21:9

Numbers

God tells Moses to exterminate the residents of Canaan and destroy all of their religious symbols and possessions. 33:50-52 But if the Israelites don’t kill them all, then God will make them pricks in their eyes and thorns in their sides. And he will do unto the Israelites as he planned to do to the inhabitants of Canaan. 33:55-56 “The revenger of blood” must murder the murderer just as soon as he sees him. 35:19, 21 When a murder is committed the blood pollutes the land. The only way to cleanse it is to spill more blood by killing the killer. 35:30, 33

Deuteronomy

“The Lord destroyed them before them” – the general treatment of the people who were supposedly displaced by the Israelites. 2:21-22 All nations shall be terrorized by the followers of Yahweh. 2:25 God hardened the heart of the king of Heshbon and so that he could have him and all of his people killed. 2:30 At God’s instructions, the Israelites “utterly destroyed the men, women, and the little ones” leaving “none to remain.” 2:33-36 The Israelites, with God’s help, kill all the men, women, and children of every city. 3:3-6 When going to war, don’t be afraid. God is on your side; “he shall fight for you.” 3:22 God destroyed the followers of Baalpeor. 4:3 God brought the Israelites out of Egypt “by war … and by great terrors.” 4:34 If someone makes an image of anything (like a bird or flower) then God will destroy the entire nation. 4:25-26 If you worship the wrong god, God will get jealous and kill you. 6:15 God instructs the Israelites to kill, without mercy, all the inhabitants (strangers) of the land that they conquer. 7:2 If you do show any mercy to such strangers, “give your daughters to any of them, or “take” any of their daughters, then you’ll get God so angry that he’ll “destroy thee suddenly.” 7:4 God will kill those who hate him. 7:10 God commands his people to “consume all the people which the Lord thy God shall deliver thee; thine eye shall have no pity on them.” 7:16

Should I go on?

Answer #3

God is love, and Satan is evil. Good and bad, will coexist together, until the time, when Jesus comes back to put a stop to it. Until then, prayer is the only thing that can keep us safe. We are not automatically guranteed safety of any kind, however, we have the priviledge of asking God for his protection, if we belong to him.

katydid747 - “the war is led by God”… they believe their war is led by God… and you cant argue with a religious zealot… they’re completely brainwashed…

Also I think a lot of them resent having American presence on their land… It’s not like America would allow a foreign army to camp out on its land…

Answer #5

I’m a Christian, and I beleive that even though it’s Muslim and Christian and Jewish law to not kill, not everyone obeys that. I feel as though, even though the army is “filled to the brim w/ Christians” It’s because we believe that everyone has the right to freedom. We fight for other people who aren’t so fortunate. It sickens me when people think that all Iragis are terrorists! Only a few are, and they’re killing because of religion differences.

Also, in the OT, yes God did tell the Hebrews to kill, but it has good intentions behind it. The people who were killed had turned from God, and He tried to save them, but they refused. They refused eternal life in heaven w/ The Creator! They had to be punished because Jesus hadn't saved the world yet.
Answer #6

The Bible does not have instructions for murder.. the ten commandments say though shall not murder. askegg needs to read the bible again. the quran on the other hand is a whole different story. As far as wars go… Yes there were wars in the old testament that were led by God., and the ark of the convenant was taken into battle to symbolize God’s presence. Non believers are a bit confused about thou shall not kill and wars… I think it’s more for believers to understand so I’m not even going to try to explain that one.

Answer #7

The Old Testament contains several stories of YHWH commanding the Hebrew to commit genocide on neighboring cultures. Muslims, like Jews and Christians, consider the OT authoritative.

So, there are examples in the OT of YHWH commanding genocide, and otherwise glorifying war, and no commands NOT to commit war atrocities. There’s nothing in the OT to prohibit such horrors, as long as it’s deamed ‘war’. If ‘though shalt not kill’ applies in war as well, then why is the military filled to the brim with Christians?

Answer #8

They have no such ‘right’ - it is pure EVIL in action.

Answer #9

I think you had better read the Bible again - there are plenty of instructions for murder. The Quran is ever worse.
