What is your reason for having an eating disorder?

Not like, “I want to be skinny”, but why do you want to be skinny? who are you trying to please? What is your deep-down reason? I’m not trying to be rude or whatever, I respect everyone’s opinions. I just want to know what your reason is for having an eating disorder. =]

Answer #1

faggete - yes you are right not everyone talks about there ed but some do. . I have Bulimia Nervosa, I’ve had a pretty traumatic history. My mother died when I was six, my father never cared he said he did but when my gran fought for custody he didn’t show up in court he was so drunk. Two close relatives died in 2006. I was bullied all the way through infant junior and senior school and in college. I’ve always been a perfectionist, im highly self critical, and I hate my body. Bulimia is my coping mechanism for everything that I cannot control in my life, bulimia lets me control my weight and I don’t know how id get through the day without it. In a perculiar way bulimia or mia is my only best friend who knows my innermost secrets.

Answer #2

OVERIT = you’d be surprised how many people with eating disorders talk about their problems on the net when they’re anonymus. but true it is personal. quite a lot of people don’t know why they have their eating disorder, so they can’t answer. [btw I’m not a wannabe…not that you said that]

Answer #3

faggette 7 = yeah it’s often secretive, but some people are more open than others. I’m open about my problems on the internet and with close friends, but no one else.

Answer #4

these are the reasons I discovered from my therapy when I was anorexic:

  • I feel in control…my food/weight is the only thing in my life I can control.
  • when people started to worry about me I felt loved and noticed.
  • striving for perfection that I can’t find in another way.
  • I associate thinnest with happiness.

of course the looking great and wearing tiny clothes is a bonus.

Answer #5

I dont think you might get many answers. most people with actual eating disorders dont go around telling people but then again that might now be all.

Answer #6

It’s not something a lot of people with ed go around telling just because its really personal. the only ones who will really say anything are the ones recovering or the ones faking it. You may not be able to get a lot out of people but I suggest going to a ana mia ed site where stories are posted and you can really get anwsers from people

Answer #7

people who have eating disorders usually aren’t that way because they want to be prettier or whatever. I mean in a sense yes, but its a disease, not a decision.

Answer #8

Im not anorexic or bulemic or anything but I am trying to lose 15 pounds by April in a semi healthy way. I am going to take NV diet pills but also eat right and exercise. I want to do it because I am going to Florida and I want to look better in a two-piece

Answer #9

well… I’ve just been seeing sooo many people on here going “how can I be a better anorexic?” blahblahblah. so yea.

Answer #10
