What is the difference between being "goth" and being "emo"?

Just wondering…People give big differences to these

Answer #1

emo comes from the genre of music called emocore or emotional hardcore now the genre as more of an indie influence. “”Indie Emo””

From 2000 to present, use of the term “emo” expanded beyond the musical genre, which added to the confusion surrounding the term. The word “emo” became associated with open displays of strong emotion. Common fashion styles and attitudes that were becoming idiomatic of fans of similar “emo” bands also began to be referred to as “emo”. As a result, bands that were loosely associated with “emo” trends or simply demonstrated emotion began to be referred to as emo.

In an even more expanded way than in the 90s, emo has come to encompass an extremely wide variety of bands, many of whom have very little in common. The term has become so broad that it has become nearly impossible to describe what exactly qualifies as “emo”. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=emo

Goth also started with music -“”Gothic Rock”” one of it’s early influences being the Doors Defining an explicit ideology for the gothic subculture is difficult for several reasons. First is the overwhelming importance of mood and aesthetic for those involved. This is, in part, inspired by romanticism and neoromanticism. The allure for goths of dark, mysterious, and morbid imagery and mood lies in the same tradition of Romanticism’s gothic novel. During the late 18th and 19th century, feelings of horror, and supernatural dread were widespread motifs in popular literature; The process continues in the modern horror film. Balancing this emphasis on mood and aesthetics, another central element of the gothic is a deliberate sense of camp theatricality and self-dramatization; present both in gothic literature as well as in the gothic subculture itself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goth_subculture http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=goth

I don’t know or care about emo, but goth is NOT about wearing black and being an outcast. I have tons of friends, and I wear whatever colours I want, but I’m what you’d call a goth.

To be goth, all you have to do is think for yourself and listen to gothic rock.

Answer #3

no you’re all wrong take it from a goth guy and his emo girlfriend,ok. Gothic is not about wearing black and worshiping satan, its about being outcast. the definition of gothic is an “elegant” dislike of color and heavy emotions, which means we wear black because we hate bright colors or colors in general, and that we hate over emotional people like preps, and its also why we’re so mellow and flat toned all the time. Emo means you’re highly intwined with your darker emotions such as anger sadness and jealousy. the jealousy ones what causes them to cut themselves, thy’re jealous of someone so they cut themselves for attention.

and there you have it. the truth about the whole ordeal
Answer #4

emo seems to be in touch with your emotions and being highly sensitive about them such as cutting and being fashionable in your clothes. goth is a lifestyle being perceived as a quiet and a music junkie and just living life, not being falling down to other peoples standards of being a pretty, popular slut or jock.

Answer #5
