What is the best way to teach my dog "no jump"?

She is still learning sit. But she is having a lot of trouble listening. Especially when she is told no, stay and no jump..

Instead of no jump, which is a hard thing to learn (a negative is harder for an animal to learn) teach the dog to sit or stay. and stick to one word. Again, no, stay, no jump. That is a very complicated command. She’s not going to understand sentences. Just teach the dog to stay and reward her when she does. Animals are not the problem. It’s the way we train them.

Thanks, I never said she was a problem. This is why I am seeking advice, so that I can be the best owner I can be. Appreciate it.

hey, firstly dogs only learn for about 10 mins at a time so every day do 1 lesson, or 1 in the morning and 1 at nite.

start with a stick/ broom handle, or what ever laying on the ground. get them to walk over it. when they do praise them like crazy and give them a LITTLE BIT of a treat, do this like 5 - 10 times. then raise the hieght by 10-20cm(depending on how tall ya dog is) and repeat, then raise the height, repeat, if they don’t do it don’t smack them or yell at them, just tell them no firmly and start again, if they start to get un-interested then stop the lesson, once they get there first treat tho, you’ll have there full attention, good luck

say stop when it jumps and look it straight in the eye and if it does give it a treat if not pat its noes it will then listen to you…if not then get an expert or just try looking at a book…

Answer #5

IGNORE IGNORE IGNORE…Turn you back…DO NOT make eye contact… DO NOTspeak…don’t say down, off, git…do not say anything. don’t push or touch them…Watch what a dominant dog does when a youngster makes a bid for attention…they act as tho the pup is invisible…they walk right thru the jump…they don’t look at them or acknowledge them in anyway…The second the pup has “all four on the floor” praise, praise, praise…at first the pup will jump again, then ignore again…all training takes time, patience and consistancy.
