What is happening between my rat sisters?

I have two rats who are sisters and have been together since the womb. Recently the rats have switched power and the rat new in power seems to be getting revenge. My one rat has little scraps and scabs all over her and the latest is a bleeding wound that is missing fur on the side of her head. I have cleaned and am watching the wound. However, should I separate these sisters to avoid further injuries?

Thanks - I should have stated they are over 2 years old and this just starting happening in the last couple months.

Answer #2

YES!!! even though they have been together since the woumb that doesn’t mean crap, a lot of rodents who have been together since birth clash and try to kill each other sometimes, especially if one tries to take power. Also if the one rat is sick then the other will try to kill it to eliminate disease risk. But yeah you definitaley need to seperate them or one is going to die.

Answer #3

If they are two I would say they are just becoming sexually mature but rats usually sexually mature about 6 months I think it after birth. I just dont know why they would be establishing a dominancy now, but seperating will stop further injury.
