What does the IF...mean?

If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love. John 15:10

Answer #1

GOD’S LOVE IS UNCONDITIONAL!!!

If that’s the case, why does he have the CONDITION that you need to BELIEVE in him in order to go to heaven (I.e. obtain eternal life) oh and why couldn’t he CLEARLY state it EVERYWHERE in his bible?

If he loved unconditionally, then everyone would obtain eternal life WITHOUT being judged

…But IF you love someone then your obedience really isn’t a cost. when you love someone you want to do what is right and don’t see it as a sacrifice

Answer #6

It’s to make you think that IF you follow certain rules, you will be loved. Kind of like a conditional statement.

Answer #7

It means that Jesus’ love is conditioned on obedience. In other words, it isn’t a free gift. It costs you something.

Answer #8

Parents are suppose to have an unconditional love for their children. Meaning , no matter what they do, even though we may or may not agree, we still love them.

You can’t compare you’re parents to your god, because…

  1. Parent’s are humans and is sinful according to your bible
  2. god is a perfect being…perfect beings shouldn’t be judging imperfect beings. He created people, knowing what they’d turn out to be or choose and then punish them for creating them that way…nice guy your god is.

The unbeliever is blinded by his inability to understand God’s truth. It is impossible for the unsaved man to understand the Bible

Then vice versa also applies and it’s impossible for the believer to understand the non-believer’s point of view, therefore this conversation is pointless.
