What's a healthy weight loss?

Hey, I am a 15 year old boy with a serious weight problem. Recently I’ve lost 5 pounds because I’ve been taking daily walks and watching what I eat. I just got a dog and so he’s my weight loss partner ^.^ I weigh a whopping 255 pounds right now. And I feel terrible. I want to lose 100 pounds before summer of 2008 (june). Question #1: What would be a healthy goal of losing weight. in terms of pounds per week?? Question #2: In mathmatical terms I should be loosing 10 pounds every month..Is this healthy? Question #3: I’m thinkning about becoming a “Lacto-ovo-Pescatarian vegitarian” which means I can eat fish, eggs and milk just not “things the cast a shadow” (example beef pork and lamb) is that healthy?

Hi

I am currently trying to lose 100 lbs so far I have lost 8lbs on my first month, no starving required. When it comes to losing weight it’s extremely difficult, but it can be done.

You need to start with determination, discipline and really want it.

My son is currently almost 300lbs and he is also on the same plan as myself please contact me if you’d like more info.

This is no joke weight is a big problem, and I truely hope you lose it now that you are still very young. This is the reason why my son is also trying to lose weight. It doesn;t just happen over night.

I’m giving you these websites for you to get more info : , (please read the blogs) and on herbalnutrition.net/jemmvli you can get more info on your health.

Remember there are many people offering you many products but I myself am a living testimony and I am also tired of my overweight issue I’ve battled with it all my life. Don’t take other peoples word for it do it yourself.

I currently don;t have pics of me posted due to the embarrasment of how I look and anybody with a weight issue knows that taking pics is not a fun thing to do. But I will post them as soon as I feel I can dig up the courage to take the after pic. I do have the before pic. hope to hear from you. jemmvli

If you are morbidly obese than you might be best off going to a doctor for help. I have sister-in-law who’s health was ruined by bariatric surgery so I’m not a big fan of that but a Dr. can monitor you and make sure that your weight loss isn’t causing other health problems.

Becoming a vegetarian is not a silver bullet for weight loss. I’ve been a lacto-ovo vegetarian for over 25 years and I still struggle with weight. It is possible ot eat a fairly healthy omnivorous diet and you can be a strict vegan and have a lousy diet (after all potato chips and soda are vegan). When I first became a vegetarian a lot of times I just substituted cheese for meat which isn’t really progress.

You are on the right track increasing exercise and watching what you eat. Eat lots of veggies and eat fruit instead of high calorie deserts and you will be healthier even if your weight loss doesn’t come right away.

That’s great that you want to lose weight and be healthy.

Don’t just count calories. Also check for saturated fat and try to keep it low.

As filletofspam pointed out, it can be very healthy to be vegetarian or vegan, or it can be pretty unhealthy. It really depends on exactly what you eat. Cheese and milk, for example, are often high in saturated fat.

Compare nutrition labels at the store. Compare meat, cheese, and milk to rice or soy alternatives.

Keep walking. That’s a great and healthy way to lose weight, and it sounds like it is already working for you!

You could talk to your doctor about whether the ten pounds a month would be healthy for you.
