What are good ways to ease coughing after a cold?

I just suffered a cold recently that consisted of drowsiness, sore throat, and coughing. Everything but the coughing is gone, and it’s starting to keep me and my husband up at night, and it seems that no matter what medicine I take, I can’t ease it enough. It’s to the point I’ve strained muscles from coughing so much. I’m not coughing up blood, just mucus, and even that’s not coming up fast enough to provide me a nights rest for once. What should I do to ease my coughing or get the mucus out of my throat?

Answer #1

use two pillows on top of each other when you sleep so u can keep your head high , this diffidently helped me . and drink something warm . I heard once that mint smell helps too?

Answer #2

I tried the pillow thing, but my coughing got so bad hubby kicked me out of bed. Which is a once. Would tea be a possibility? I have a box of that, and I have coffee.

Answer #3

Drink tea with honey, it’s yummy and feels good on your throat :)

Answer #4

Take 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (chase it with a spoon of honey or sugar, if you must). This should loosen up what’s in your lungs and airways, so you may end up with a good coughing fit, but that’s good, because you should expel a lot of mucous that your body is trying to get rid of.

Answer #5

cough drops, vix, and honey :)
