Too late for nisha, however … The morning after pill (also known as Emergency Contraception (E.C.) is 75-85% effective and should be taken AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, which hopefully means within 72 hrs of sex. The sooner taken the better the chances. Chemically it is identical to many birth control pills. E.C. works primarily by preventing the release of eggs from the ovaries. E.C. does NOT work by causing an abortion. If you are already pregnant, E.C. does nothing.

In the US, ‘Plan B’ is the name of morning after pill, and it is available in most states WITHOUT prescription, although the purchaser usually has to show proof of age 18. Here in Pennsylvania, Wal-Mart has it available on demand at the prescription counter. Any guy or gal over the age of 18 can buy Plan B.

Plan B is two pills taken together or 12-hrs apart. The most common side effect is nausea (23%) and vomiting (6%). If you are prone to nausea, consider taking an anti-nausea medication (like emetrol) an hour before you take the pill, because if you throw-up, you will have to retake the dose.

You might also be able to take your regular birth control pills as an E.C. Go to this site: http://ec.princeton.edu/worldwide/default.asp#country to find out how many and what timing to use.

All in all, it is better to be on regular b.c. pills because 1.) They are 99.9% effective, and 2.) They have much fewer side effects. Note that b.c. pills do NOT protect against STD’s. That requires either condoms or abstinence.

hey!

the pills are an effective way of not gettin pregnant, however make sure when havein sex u use a condom.. The Pill works by thickening the mucus around the cervix, which makes it difficult for sperm to enter the uterus and reach any eggs that may have been released.

side effects include:-

irregular menstrual bleeding nausea, weight gain, headaches, dizziness, and breast tenderness mood changes blood clots (rare in women under 35 who do not smoke)

but the side effect very in women.. some women are not affected while others are .

Most combination pills come in either a 21-day pack or a 28-day pack. One hormone pill is taken each day at about the same time for 21 days.
