What do y'all think about washing your childs mouth out with soap?

I was watching something on T.V., and it has made me question and wonder about something… What do y’all think about washing your childs mouth out with soap?
If you think its nessessary at times…when? Is it cruel?

Answer #1

I dont think its cruel if its necessary.

Answer #2

I don’t think it’s cruel, many a foul mouth has been cleaned up - once usually enough.

Answer #3

im not a mother.lol but lets just say it does work. and its not cruel unless you mean for it to be. but if its to stop them from cussing then I do believe that its totally alright. I dont see why nawt actually. my mom used it on me a few times. and mann that stuff is nasty..and it workss(:

Answer #4

Answer #5

I strongly belive in time out.I think washing your kids mout out with soap is cruel also these days soap is really not safe to swallow

Answer #6

it seems a little cruel? soap isnt exactly the safest thing to be swallowing… there are better ways to deal with your kids?

Answer #7

when I was a kid my aunt did that and I still hate her to this day …well everyone does:)

Answer #8

It was done to me and I agree with Amblessed, it cleans it up and you won’t say it again, atleast in front of your parents. LOL

Answer #9

I personally say that’s a No. because I feel that it would not be safe to swallow. therefore it doesn’t need to go in your mouth.

if your kid says a bad word, find another way to deal.

Answer #10

My mom put the liquid one in my mouth one time for saying “the f word” when I was younger, and believe me it worked. It’s disgusting and I couldn’t get the taste out of my mouth. I certainly learned my lesson though. That was more effective than the spanking…I think it is necessary but not if it’s used often. My parents just gave me the taste of it and that was it..lol

Answer #11

my mom washed my mouth out with soap as a child and now im f**king perfect.

Answer #12

I think its stupid it was used because soap tastes horrible however as ty said, its not safe to be swallowed and it also dries up your mouth disturbing saliva production

Answer #13

im still a kid to many older people and personally all my friends that have had their mouth washed out ended up taking a ride in their mommys car and getting washed out with somethin cus they accidentally swallowed it

Answer #14

I definitely got the bar of ivory in my mouth once or twice. It didnt take too many times before I realized, “dont yell at mom and dont say grown up words until you are a grown up”. I dont see it as cruel. I mean, unless you are using liquid soap or you are making the child EAT the soap, its not too bad. Soap is non-toxic, and the taste does go away.

Answer #15

I’d never do that and I never heard of anyone doing that in the last 40 years. My mom acted like it was common in her day though. She mentioned that deodorant soap tasted a lot worse than Ivory.

I do have a neighbor who keeps vinegar in a spray bottle and whenever their kids say bad things they have to have a spray of vinegar in their mouths. I disagree with this as well but it is probably healthier than soap.
