Here is the full closing quote from Rev. Lowery’s benediction:

“Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around … when yellow will be mellow … when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right. That all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen.”

Already the wing-nuts on the right are already up in arms over it. They seem to think that all whites in this country have always embraced what is right, and a black man who lived through the civil rights struggles has no right to suggest otherwise. I thought the benediction was excellent.

Yes, it is true.

I watched the ceremony but cant really remember what was said. Even f it is true, I see no problem…its a fact that some white people are still racist (same can be said for blacks, asians etc, but the history of white oppression is a much larger influence on american history). Some people (amblessed?) might take it to be overgeneralized though

sigh… only amblessed or others cut from the same cloth would be disturbed by this prayer. In their world only THEY are allowed to criticize others. How DARE anyone suggest that “whites” need to embrace what is right. How DARE anyone suggest that all is not perfect with the white race. especially a black man…
