What are your feelings on the Islam extremist group that burned a giant poppy today, Rememberence Day?

Well today, at Hyde Park, in London, a group of around 35 Muslim extremeists, in a group named “Muslims against the Crusades” gathered. They carried banners and chanted slogans such as “British soldiers: terrorists”. Posters bore slogans including “Hands off Muslim lands” and “Islam will dominate”, and flags bore Arabic writing with the words “There is no God but Allah”. They also burned a giant poppy during the two minutes of silence. I just wanted to hear your views on the matter. I personally this it is disgraceful, and out of order.

Answer #1

As compared to the christian extremists who go to American Soldiers’ funerals and chant ‘God hates Fags?’. Yup. Extremists tend to be a disgusting bunch. Apparently it doesnt seem to matter much what their various justifications (i.e. religious beliefs) are.

Answer #2

Its horrible! I believe strongly that everyone has the right to express their views but it should be done in a respectful manner. Burning a poppy and Chanting mean things is not respectful. Niether is chanting God hates Fags. Honestly, myself I am sick and tired of all the hating that goes on in this world. Especially in the name of religion. I wonder qhen and if we’ll ever grow up.

You’re referring to the Phelps family congregation of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka Kansas. The entire congregation consists of the one family. Despite the minuscule number of attendants… the church encompasses an entire city block on the outskirts of town. On top of the swank real estate… the family congregation also manages to travel the country protesting in favor of the most inflammatory positions. One is lead to wonder how they afford it all. Why have they been invited to countless interviews when their opinions are so marginal and ineffectual? Why… if they wish to be taken seriously… do they always show up for these interviews as haggardly and disheveled as Grizzly Adams after a week long peyote trip? Why protest homosexuality at a soldier’s funeral? Because they are a strawman group. Good at keeping the left/right dichotomy intact… good at keeping churches who don’t want to be like this boogeyman in tow with the military industrial complex.

The same with the Islamic poppy poopers and the Islamic WTC mosque advocates. These are obvious controlled opposition. Real nasties are not going to run around yelling “Boogah Boogah… look at me”… they do their nastiness under cover of darkness and sell their snake oil as a miracle elixir.

Answer #4

Ah, and so we oh so subtly link people wanting to create a community center a few blocks away from the WTC along with the nuts all the while implying that the fringe nuts have nothing to do with the general population. Right. The fringe nuts are no longer the fringe. That’s the scary part.

Answer #5

The royal we? Is your summation an attempted rebuttal?

Answer #6

Is that an attempt at deflection in order to avoid the actual issue? Well let me remind you of what it is. You have equated moderate muslims wishing to build a community center near ground zero with extremists on either side of the aisle. Care to comment on that?

Answer #7

No… I was asking for clarification. Your reply consisted of a general summation of my words followed by a one word rebuff… “Right.” What issue was there to deflect?
My point is that we should remain vigilant to suspect the device whenever the devil waltzes into the room announcing himself with trident and barbed tail. “Methinks the lady doth protest too much”… whenever any group willingly calls so much negative attention to itself… the rational response is to question ulterior motive. Dismissing my argument glibly out of hand hardly necessitates a response.

Answer #8

It was absolutley disgusting and reinforced my feeling that the majority of the world is corrupt. Having said that, I was getting extremely annoyed with people I know and heard completely putting the whole religion down and saying that all muslims should be deported. They were EXTREMISTS, why slander the whole religion? Look at that pastor who wanted to burn the quran. Yes, these incidents are wrong and is a result of a poor outlook on life and people full of burning hatred. Yet, there is no reason to hate a race of a majority of innocent people when it is a few certain extremist individuals doing these horrific actions.

Answer #9

Using big words doesn’t make your point valid. Ty is right, these people are disgusting and I believe they should be burned for it. If someone even announced “Allah doesn’t exist” in the middle east they’d get done for blasphemy. This hypocrisy isn’t really working for me… an eye for an eye. If not burned then at least prosecuted. Their actions offended not only a small group of people but an entire nation. I don’t know one brit that doesn’t think they should be punished. It’s revolting, really it is. It doesn’t matter whether they’re just for show and nothing to worry about. This act disrespected millions of hard working people who gave their lives for this country, and their relatives. It’s disgusting, they should be deported.

Answer #10

I’m not attempting sophistry… I wasn’t aware I was using difficult language. I was trying to articulate my point in the least clumsy way. There’s nothing wrong with honoring the lives of those friends and family members who died protecting what they loved. A rush to judgment and rash reaction is the danger I am speaking against. What if those people who profit from war and strife funded or facilitated these extremists? It is more common than you know. 9/11 is unraveling by the day. Many more innocent lives would be lost or ruined needlessly. We have to atleast be aware of this possibility.

Answer #11

sophistry? the majority of users on this site wouldn’t even know what that word means. you are using difficult language, and you’re clearly using it to accentuate the fact that you’re smart, therefore you’re right. but, wrong. a smart person would write in simpler english so that users could fully understand what you’re saying without the accompanying mindf.ck. You completely lost me on your last point.

Answer #12

Sophistry… simply put… is the attempt to use fanciful language in order to prejudice an audience towards a speaker or writer’s argument. The problem in accusing someone of it… is that it requires someone who knows the subject of discussion in enough depth to ascertain when it is being utilized. Accusing someone simply because they use unfamiliar words is subjective… it can be applied to any statement composed of words any reader may be unfamiliar with. I agree with you… explaining a thing in its simplest terms is to be preferred. This is not always accomplished by omitting “big words.” Sometimes a “big word” can be used in place of many smaller ones which could complicate the thought. For example… to say that SOUP is eaten with a SPOON is simpler than saying A SAVORY STOCK OR BROTH SOMETIMES CONTAINING PROCESSED PLANT OR ANIMAL TISSUE is eaten with a HANDHELD METALLIC TOOL CONCAVE ON ONE END. Not to be facetious… just to illustrate the point. Sometimes a particular word explains a point better. For example… if I wished to illustrate the danger of sleet to someone driving… I could relay that it is precipitating… which includes a broad set of different things… I could narrow it down by saying it was hailing… which goes further in defining the danger… but doesn’t describe the danger in as much detail… or I could tell them that it was sleeting… and as long as they knew the term… they would realize that there was a danger of the roadway being slippery. So… yeah… sometimes different words could be used… but why use them when another is better at making the point? I was not attempting to prejudice people by using colorful language. I was attempting to make my point as succinct… if craftily… as possible. I am the first to admit that I have not always articulated my point as neatly as possible. If you honestly have as much trouble following my point as you claim… that is my shortcoming. I think that your problem with my language has more to do with the fact that my opinion differs from your own. You don’t agree with me and you decided to take a cheap shot by ridiculing the means in which the message was delivered rather than the message itself.
