Want to help my sons friend

My son has a friend who is 17. His mother and he are having issues. His mother has thrown him out. I do not want the child sleeping on a park bench. I want to offer to let him stay here. The child wants to join the Army, but his mother will not sign for it. My question is…if I let the child stay with me and my family (which consists of me, my husband, my 17 year old and a dog) what are my legal obligations for the child and can I get in to any trouble. The child’s mother is a police office, and I want to help this child, but I also can imagine that she can make my life difficult… Thanks

You can absolutely get in legal trouble, and even charged with kidnapping. DO NOT take him into your home.

Talk to the school the child attends, and they can help him find resources to help himself.
You can also contact Child and Youth Services.

Answer #2

you won’t get in any trouble , she threw him out , and if you were to take him in , the mother can’t do anything at all . Good luck ! - kaytee :)

thats tricky, I agree with amblessed. consult your laywer. also if there doesn’t seem to be a problem with him staying with you for a while, but if its all the same I say your heart is in the right place.
