Puppy shots

ok so we were gonna go to get my puppies shot and the examtoday at the vets office along with my neighbors puppy but dey decided not to go because dey wanna go get the rabies one on may 10th at petco. so my question is what is the parvo shot? would it be better to go take the puppies to get there exam? this is the first time either of them will be going to the vets

Answer #1

Parvo is a very aggressive and deadly virus if not treated, can live in a enviorment for up to 13 months,

I work for a vet and this is how we handle our puppy vaccines.

8 weeks is P.B “aka Kennal cough” DAP “distemper, adeno, parvo

11 weeks PB and Dap

14 weeks PB and DAP

17 weeks PB and DAP and RV1 “Rabies good for one year”

I will tell you it is very important for a puppy to get all of their vaccines, they need to build there immuntiy back up. Once they are weened from the mother they loose that anibodies they were getting from her milk and the vaccines build that back up. Without these you should not take your dog to any high traffic doggie area’s because they are at a HUGE risk for picking up infection or virus’s. I would never take a puppy that is not finished with there puppy vaccines to petco, petsmart, doggie park or groomer, boarding, I hope you understand the chance one would be taking by saving a couple of buck and just getting a rabies vaccine only just because that is the law. Every puppy should see a vet and get a good health check up includeding get a stool check done, getting vaccines started and getting the pup started on Heartworm prevention.

Answer #2

The parvo vaccine is usually given as part of a combination shot DHLPP series that puppies get between six weeks and three months of age: http://puppy.lifetips.com/cat/66032/shots-required-for-puppies/index.html

Take care !!

Answer #3

you should get the PARVO one, I brought a new puppy, and it had to be put down from parvo.. its a killer virus, and destroy and eats away there insides, you shoudl really get it done, as it is going around at the moment

Answer #4

Get the Puppy shots…worry about Rabies later…Parvo is fatal.
