How would they go about untwisting an esophagus?

My Dr. thinks that my esophagus may be twisted, for reasons, and i am scared to find out for sure, because if it is they will want to untwist it to make me feel better, but i don’t want to be cut open! How would they untwist it? Would they cut my throat open a bit and just untwist it? Or someone said they might just put a tube down there and blow air to untwist it. I want to know

Well, i’ve actually never heard of that before:o But your friend is probably right. If they do anything though, you will be sedated, so don’t worry :)

This is a question best answered by your doctor as there are several variables that would make a difference in the type of treatment you need to undergo, but one thing is certain - they’re not going to cut your throat.

The common procedures involve sending a balloon down your throat on the end of a tube, then inflating the balloon to straighten out the esophagus, or going into the abdomen or chest (depending on where the problem is) laparoscopically (involves only a tiny incision where they use a small camera and tiny tools). Both procedures have quick recovery times and very few complications.
