Thought on Psychiatrist

My mom is making me go see one for my OCD and some other problems I have. What is your thought on shrinks??

Answer #1

Can’t we at least know a couple things about them?

No. Because a client comes in and is paying good money to solve their problems, not to hear about the therapists life. Disclosing is done by different therapists to different degrees, but it is usually done for therapeutic reasons. It is tough being in a vulnerable position, but it is necessary, because they can only help to the extent you allow them. No one can read minds. If you’re going to give them a tough time, you cannot expect to actually benefit from therapy.

As for why talk to a stranger, because these are mental disorders. There are things therapists learn about why disorders develop and how to solve them. A therapist is not going to fix anyone’s life. They help the client figure out ways to fix their own lives.

And no, saying your pissed off or sad all the time isnt very detailed. And most therapists would explore exactly what that meant. If yours should have.

Answer #2

Why talk to a stranger about your problems? They have no idea who the real you is;they don’t even know every little detail of your life,so what the fck can they solve? *

Because most people have trouble speaking to those people that they know about their problems. Psychiatrists do help a lot and like bimjob says it sometimes takes a few sessions or a few psychiatrists before you get used to them.

Answer #3

They’re strangers;they’re only getting to know YOU,but what about them? Can’t we at least know a couple things about them? Why talk to a stranger about your problems? They have no idea who the real you is;they don’t even know every little detail of your life,so what the fck can they solve? I loathe them with a burning passion! Ughh, they THINK they know everything about you,but they don’t. And when they say ‘Oh,I know how you feel’ they really don’t know sht. They have no idea how you feel. If you say ‘I’m pissed off and sad all the time’ that’s not every little detail. Do you get my point? THEY’RE STRANGERS WHO HAVE NO IDEA WHO YOU ARE. Sorry I was rambling. lol

Answer #4

They are highly trained professionals who can give a great deal of help, if you let them. Realize that problems that people have didn’t develop overnight, and the solutions won’t either. You need to trust and work with them, and sometimes it takes several sessions to simply build the trust that is required before further progress can be made. Good Luck!!

Answer #5

Soemd o Help, sometimes you just have to find the right one! But they do help and they know how to get you trough stuff, I dont believe in them but I have learned that also the right one has to be found! GOOD LUCK!;)

Answer #6

They are brilliant and excellent for figuring out what is wrong with you and getting you on the right medication. (doctors often tend to stick to just the traditional medication when it comes to depressions and shrinks can prescribe more options for you)

I think it’s a good thing that she is making you go.

Answer #7

I think they can really guide you in identifying the key factors that are causing your ‘abnormal’ behaviour.

They can help - if you allow them to.
