Who thinks Dr. Laura Schlessinger's "racial rant" should be cause for her to end her 30 year radio career?

Has the situation been taken to extremes, or is she really racist? Your thoughts?

Answer #1

Well I was listening to it just now and all she was saying that there isn’t anything wrong with the “n” word. It became pretty clear that she wasn’t a racist when she pointed out that “If anyone without enough melanin says it, it’s a horrible thing” so you’re racist if you’re not the right color when saying a word. Huh? Her point came off as arrogant which is why most of the people considered it racist, she was pretty much attacking her listeners and the woman she was talking to.

Answer #2

Well I say more power to her! It’s absolutely true! Just because youre one color then you can say the word but if youre another you cant? thats racisim!! So if your black and say it then dont get offended when a white person says it!! bunch of hypocrites is what i think!

Answer #3

That, my dear friend, is a double standard :P

Answer #4

well i am black and i sort of dnt see why she would even point that out i mean if a black person say to another black person then its alright bt it only matters how they say it

Answer #5

Does now matter. She’s on FOX so they will do nothing.

Answer #6

I fully agree with Laura. I’m black and white people call me that all the time and it doesn’t bother me. I feel like black people have been riding the slavery thing for waaaay too long and a lot of them use it to be racist actually. Did anybody ever notice how a black person can say something racially offensive about a white person and it’s ok but as soon as white person says something it’s big news and they’re racist. The N word doesn’t even have anything to do with race…it means ignorant person. There is such a double standard when it comes to this and I’m seriously annoyed with it. If a black person can say it to you then a white person can say it to you and anyone who disagrees with that is a racist and you can argue with me all you want but what your ultimately doing is saying one race deserves this right and the other one doesn’t because of color and that’s full on racism right there people.More power to Laura she had the guts to call black people out on their crap and I respect her for that.

Answer #7

Am I the only one who notices this preponderance in the establishment media intent on airing any racially inflammatory material?

While the country is poised on the precipice of complete insolvency… the media… which is owned by the plutocrats fleecing us all… resorts to the age old tactic of race baiting in an effort to both marginalize the real issues for the upcoming election and foment division amongst the proletariat?

Isn’t this ploy obvious? If I criticize President Obama… I hate African-Americans… If I oppose illegal immigration… I hate Latinos… we have Muslims defending their mosque at a very sensitive site… and Americans reminded of the us vs them sentiment they first felt after 9/11. There was a crazed Israeli masquerading as a typical white American going around and slashing only black people. Cable news devoting week long segments studying the disparity still seen between people of color and the rest. African-Americans vying for jobs against people from Central and South America. We are being inundated with this hot button topic.

I don’t dispute the importance these issues command generally… only the gravity we are giving them at a time when the topics more urgent and relevant to our predicament aren’t receiving their due discourse. It is troubling to watch as we allow the upper echelon dictate to us our priorities while we toss real issues by the wayside.

Cupkate, if you do not understand how a word used within group allows people to reclaim a word, but when used by an out group is unacceptable because it is used as a slur, you really have been cushioned in a tiny little world. Also you apparently dont know what the word ‘racism’ means. Lets not pretend that racism does not exist, or that systematic racism is not still a serious problem within the black and latino communities.

Answer #9

FWIW, it did not end “her 30 year career.” She just got fired.

I love the way she is framing this is a 1st amendment cause. When she is on the radio she is getting paid. If she doesn’t live up to the standards of her employer than they can let her go. It isn’t up to us to decide if the word was used in a good way, bad way, or should be banned all together; it is up to her boss.

At my last job being a spokesman was officially part of my job description. When I was speaking for them I wasn’t allowed to use any term that is considered insulting to the group it referred to. If I used the n-word in almost any context I’ll bet I’d be out of there so fast i’d make your head spin. When I’m on my time I can say anything I want, when Im on their dime I have to go by their rules.

Answer #10

I can see both sides. I don’t think she was purposely being racist, she was just trying to get her point across. I don’t really see how we can all discuss this without sounding racist ourselves.
