why do i keep thinking about my ex after 5 years?

he was my first love, (we dated for like 10 months) but he treated me really bad. i am now with an amazing guy that i love unconditionally. (2 year relationship) he means the world to me, but lately i have been having dreams about my ex, and i get nervous when i see him around the school, he always stares at me but i cant seem to look at him even though i want to. he says hi to everyone in my school but when i pass by he just stares at me but he doesnt say hi. i want to be friends with him and stop this grudge between us but he refuses to speak to me. last year (after 4 years of seeing each other) he messaged me on my birthday asking me to get back with him. i turned him down obviously because he is a jerk. i want to know why he is still on my mind. i dont want to get back with him but want all of this to be resloved. please help

i think hes on your mind because of everything you just said….. you want things to be cool, to be able to talk to him or just pass by him without things being weird. i just think maybe just trying to talk to him or send him a text or something saying you know maybe we can just be friends or put everything in the past and have things not be weird…..and hey if he dosent want the same at least u tryed and can feel better about the situation.

It’s normal. Most people think about their first boyfriend/girlfriend frequently, regardless of how the relationship went. If it was especially good or bad, you’ll be thinking of it more. Plus you were i love. I suggest that you stop feeling guilty and worrying about thinking about him so much. It’s normal and just kinda let it be. What is good for you is the fact that you aren’t trying to get back with him again. Focus on doing things for you and building yourself and in no time you’ll have someone new in your life which will make you think of this guy less and less.
