Lots of questions :p ok here we go…

  1. Males are typically less aggressive and also you have no chance of buying a pregnant one (I did when I got my first female.)
  2. One would be fine but two might be nice for them to keep company. Three might be too much.
  3. The Syrian is generally a hearty and friendly breed so yes. I also suggest the Teddy Bear hamster or Russian Dwarf hamsters. They are also very nice.
  4. Your hamster/s might be a little shy at first but if you play with them often and gently they will be very friendly. You should not, however, play with them or take them out the first 3 days you have them. This allows them to grow accustomed to their new home.
  5. Many pet stores have hamster food in bags already. You might buy them little yogurt treats (also at the store) and a few wood chew sticks to keep their teeth filed.
  6. I recommend a basic wire cage. Plastic ones can get stuffy and hot and are also a pain to clean. Make sure it’s big enough for two hamsters to comfortably move around if you do end up getting two.
