Stuck in the middle of family issues.

Ever since I was 2 I’ve been going to visit my father every second weekend because my parents divorced. I enjoy spending time with my father but NOT the environment of his home. He smokes around me without a care in the world and he smokes in the house when I’m not there. He tells me the smoke vanishes but that is total BS and everyone knows it except him. He’s seen commericals and facts about what second hand smoke can do to people, especially children. I’ve decided with my mother I am fed up with him not quitting smoking and me being in an unsafe and unhealthy home around him. I’m afraid to tell him I no longer wish to go over to his house, but instead spend time with him in town. How can I say this without hurting him too bad? I’ve cried myself to sleep thinking about how this is going to affect him, he’s always alone and I feel to sorry for him but I am tired of his smoking and his lies to quit. Please I need suggestions & fast.

Yeah, my mom smokes! And I HATE IT! I ALWAYS tell her what it does to me! I have semi bad ashtma. Not so much anymore because I know how to control it. But she always denies that her smoking makes me sick and says that it’s animals that make me sick. But it’s definitely not. I can’t stand it, cause her smoking makes my clothes stink and my hair! Cause when I’m around her the smell clings to my hair.

But if I were you I’d look up some stuff on smoking online and what it does to people. Maybe then he’ll see how much it means to you.

Answer #2

Tell him his smoking bothers you and you don’t like being around the smoke…Tell him you love him…Ask him if he could not smoke around you otherwise you’ll just have to sit outside even in the winter…

Answer #3

smoking is really bad and maybe im a jerk but THAT was a bit much? maybe suggest some quitting methods instead of nagging?

Answer #4

okay, I know smoking is horrible.. yeah yeah yeah. but if you really want to see him, your just going to have to get over that for a little bit and see him anyway. maybe you two could go out to eat or something and have him agree not to smoke around you.
