Are oral HSV and genital HSV transferrable?

My girlfriend and I are considering having oral sex. We are in a steady relationship, and have talked about safe oral sex practicies, and the risk of STDs (specificaly HSV-1 and 2). My question is, if we are both oral HSV-1 positive (just the occasional cold sore), can she preform oral sex on me without me contracting the genital strand of HSV-1. If I can contract genital HSV-1 from oral sex with her, what are the chances, statistics would be very helpul.

                                                                                                      Thank You: Confused211

I don’t know statistics but I suggest if you do want to have oral sex then use a condom if you are scared of contracting a STD. They have flavored condoms which would be perfect anyways good luck hopefully things work out

Yes ski123 you can, gonorrhea of the mouth and throat are well known, as are oral herpes 2 (the bad herpes) and others.

Confused211, you can get the HSV-1 in the genital area, most commonly during an outbreak - visible or about-to-erupt cold sores. Reduce your risk by avoiding oral sex during these times or use a plain or flavored condom. For cunnilingus cut off the tip then cut lengthwise and unfold.
