How can I get a song out of my head so I can songwrite properly? I hope you can help.

I have a friend who rights his own music in Cali. He started after a break up just writing small things things down as they came to him. He always keeps a small note pad on him so when something comes to him he can write it down and not forget. We also got him a rthyme book and a separete one just for his lyrics. If you hum a beat or melody and can play get you a nice keyboard and lay down the basic tracks or even hum them into a recorder. It’ll all start to unfold from there.
