showing dogs???

Do you really need to show dogs before you breed them or is it optional? The reason I ask this cause I was talking to my friend about animals & stuff ( like I said in my previous question ) She said you need to show them before you breed them or if you are going to show them you should breed them but what if you just want to show them & not breed them My friend has me really confused as you can see if you can help that would be great cause I’m seriously confused about this stuff

Thanks!

Breeding and showing are two different things. Some breeders never show and people that show their dogs get into some breeding because they have a show dog. That should be top of the line.

You need to say what it is that you are wanting to do? Just breed your female dog? Or get into showing or just get into breeding? They are all vast subjects.

To show in an AKC show, dogs cannot be neutered or spayed…people who win Best of Breed classes, or even Best of Show, often put them up for stud, or breed their female, because they have all the best qualities of that particular breed. That said…and since I know more about German Shepherds than other breeds…The show ring German Shep is not at all like it’s “working” counterparts. they aren’t built the same, think the same, or act the same. The “working” dogs are not shown in the ring, but shown in “sports”…such as Schuzehund…these dogs get “titled”, and are also used for breeding. The working types are what you see in the back of a police car.

There are many good breeders who do not show, but have show animals in their pedigrees…who xray hips and elbows, etc etc…because they want to improve the breed, even if they aren’t headed for the show ring.
