What did I do to my shoulder?

I had on an oversized tshirt with big sleeves, so i was going to like move my arm to keep the sleeve up (kinda like shrug it up i guess lol) anyway, it sounded like a branch snapping, it hurt incredibly bad in the back of the shoulder, and felt like someone injected fire into my shoulder this is the worst it has ever hurt and that shoulder is known to be unstable, but it has never felt like this before (and its been bad enough for 12 weeks of physical therapy before…) even on pain medicine it stilll hurts a lot and my motion is strictly limited any ideas?

Answer #1

Could be any number of things like a bone spur, tendonitis, a rotator cuff tear, Bursitis, partial or complete dislocation, Impingement Syndrome, or a pinched nerve. The list goes on… Does your arm below the injured shoulder function normally?

Answer #2

yes it functions normally, it just hurts sometimes the pain from my shoulder will go all the way to my fingertips but most of the time ends at my elbow its constant pain but sometimes like radiates out and gets worse for no reason at all and im still not using it or anything

Answer #3

Sounds like it could be a labral tear. I had the same sort of symptoms you are having when I had this injury in football. I recommend seeing a doctor because tearing this can lead to tendon problems in the shoulder a well a dislocation. Hope you feel better!.

Answer #4

:( if I tore my labrum then theyll probabily have to do surgery because they thought i did that back in march, turns out the socket of the shoulder was just like stretched out… after months of physical therapy and everything I still might have to get surgery for that…. but if i actually tore my labrum on top of it then Ill definitly need it D:

Answer #5

That is a possibility. I didn’t need surgery when it happened to me. I had to go through a lot of physical therapy but the doctors weren’t sure that was even going to help. But it did, I’m not 100% and I never will be 100%but, it is much better than it was. I wish you the best. Try to stay positive and trust that your doctors know best! :)

well it being “unstable” in my case means when i move it partially dislocates/seperates then snaps itself back (so it appears to catch, slam, or pop a lot of the time when i move it certain ways) today it randomly popped very badly, hurt alot and now its fine, just really sore so i can only assume it was seperated/dislocated and reset itself anyway im doing much better now, and i just wanted to say thanks to both of you for your input and concern
