It depends. If you are comparing the same thickness of lead and tungsten shielding than tungsten which is about 1.8 times denser than lead will shield you better. However, tungsten cost around $40/kilo vs lead at about $1/kilo so if you compare the the same cost of shielding lead will shield you better. Tungsten has some other favorable qualities. Lead is far more toxic than tungsten. Tungsten alloys can be very strong, hard, and has a very high melting point (3400C) while lead is weak. soft, and melts easily (327C, you can melt it with an inexpensive propane torch or in a pan on a stove but don’t use any pan that will ever be used for food!).
