separation anxiety I need help

my dog has separation anxiety. he squeeks, squeels howls and screams until I come to him. literally- nonstop. I’ve even seen a tear or two. I make time for him and walk him and play with him even buy em toys and long lasting bones but as soon as we are apart, whether he’s outside or I’m just across the hall way from him. he’s made everyone hate him that once loved him and thought he was cute and I am getting fed up with it. when I come to him he goes crazy jumping on my lap he pisses when I pick him up his penis even sticks out which is really really gross thats why I stopped lettting the kids play with him. I dont know what to do anymore. he’s like my baby but I feel like my only option is to get rid of him

Answer #1

he’s a black chiwahuah and I tried that before I’d take him on longs walks until he was too tired I’d carry him back and soon as I get out the shower he’s screaming again. —update— my sister wants me to leave him outside in a cage because he’s gotten so bad they can’t sleep at night and they have to be at work before the sun rises

Answer #2

I would say that if you give him more exercise and tire him out ( don’t over work him) he may start to be to exhausted to care if your gone or not. how big is he ? if he is a big dog, try bike runs or skating with him running along, start off slow so that his body can learn to adjust to the changing speed. if he’s small, a 30-40 minute walk or short jog should do, but don’t let him sleep right away. if you really have to leave and he’s finially tired, just put him in a crate and leave quitely, don’t make a big deal out of leaving and coming home. ignore him too, when he whines.. he’ll quite down.

Answer #3

Depends on where you go. I’d call around, look for low cost neutering (do a search), usually they’ll do them at shelters for like $45

Answer #4

how much does it cost to get him fixed? I think that may help some because my sister has the same type dog but he has a testosterone problem (only one testicle) and he is very quiet and obedient.

thanks

Answer #5

You’ve been reinforcing the separation. You need to ignore the whining, howling and screaming. You’ve basically taught him that if he howls loudly enough and long enough he will get what he wants. So do not go to him unless he’s calm. Consider dog training classes? And def get him fixed

Answer #6

you you should try gettin him spaded or nudered(I don’t think I spelled that rite) but it helps calm your animals down.

Answer #7

I have the same problem with my dog, she’s a beagle mix and has been spayed. try taking him to a vet, there are medications which can help. She’s been on a medication called Clomicalm for a few weeks now and it has helped a lot. There are also behavioral ways of dealing with this…your dog needs professional help basically. Neutering should help as well.
