How can I seek therapy without telling my mom?

I really don’t want to have to ask my mom if i can go into therapy because i know she will ask why and i can’t bare telling her how depressed i have been lately because of all the attention that she gives me. I have seen a therapist before when i first had told her about my cutting.bad mistake seeing the therapist i did, he was one that worked at my school and he didn’t help me one bit so i can’t do that. I also don’t have any family that live near me or that i trust enough to tell them i’d like to see a therapist. what else can i do?

You really do need to tell her. She’ll be paying for it after all (unless you use the guidance counselor at your school, then she doesn’t need to know). Believe it or not, telling her might actually help things get better.

i really can’t tell my mom. When i had told her about my cutting she asked why i didn’t use a gun instead and continued to went on about how it was easier =/ I honestly believe telling her would make problems worse.

I don’t know what all the laws are, but I think in your state if you have health insurance, you can call your health insurance provider and ask them to give you a list of therapists that would be covered under your provider.

You can tell them that under your state law you can seek mental health treatment without parental consent after the age of 13. Then if they say they need to speak to your parent you can just argue with them for a while trying to have them give you the list and if they don’t budge you can always hang up the phone.

If they cooperate with you, you could ask them how much the co-pay’s would be for each provider.
