How can I keep from screeching the guitar strings while I play?

When I slide from one cord to another (for example: sliding from a C#m to a G chord to an F#, F chord..) , or when i just slide down the string regardless if im plaing a chord or not, but it mostly does it when im play a song and playing chords..it makes a loud ‘screetch’ and its very annoying and its really loud..and I think it makes the song im playing sound like crap lol..so is there any way I can help it? or someting I can do so that way it wont do that anymore? Thanks in advance!!!

I do that sometimes…but for the most part i don’t have that problem unless im wearing jewelry on my hands or wrists such as rings or bracelets. So make sure your not wearing any of those…it might have something to do with what kind of strings you have too. When you play try not to touch the stings as much when switching to different chords too…when it comes down to it you will get that sound no matter what, but you can aviod it happening quite as much by trying these :D hope this helps. oh and i don’t know if how long you keep your nails trimmed would make a difference? experimenting is what i would recommend :)

You mean that screeeetch-sound when you slide along the strings with your fingertips/fingers? With the hand that you use to push down the strings (usually the left), NOT with the hand that you use to play the rhythm (usually the right). That screetch?

And those chords… do you play those in barré (covering the entire neck of the guitar with one finger and placing the other fingers right next to it)?

And if you change from one to another, you just slide along the strings and you don’t loosen that grip, because else you’d be too slow?

So I guess what you might need is a “bottleneck”. Well not really the neck of a bottle. People used to use those, in the old days of backyard blues guitar playing…. There are tubes that you wear on your finger, like a ring but broader. There: http://funadvice.com/r/1550qtjl951
