How can I know what religion is best for me?

I;ve never been a very spiritual person but have been thinking about it a lot lately. I was raised baptist but am curious about different beliefs. How can I know what religion is best for me?

Upon reading your question I have a couple of my own that you can ask yourself as well. Will this religion bring me closer to God? Will this religion require me to DO something to merit eternal life? What kind of God do I want in my life? Active or Passive? Will this religion leave me feeling fulfilled and satisfied spiritually? Does this God have a name? Will this religion be personal? Can I know for sure I’m going to heaven? What promises has my God made to me? Do I want to serve a god or THE God? Is or does my God claim to have a personal interest in me? Does this God have my best interest at heart?

Honestly Bobbert21, no one can choose a religion for you. That’s a journey you must go on by yourself. However, the God of the universe, Christ, as you know, answers all of the above questions and no one else can. First, Christ has brought you closer to the Father through His death. Second, Christ only asks that you submit your life and heart and soul to Him because He paid the debt for us. Next, the relationship that we can have through Christ is active and He actively waits for our response to Him. Also, the Holy Spirit who dwells in you will leave you spiritually nourished as will bible reading, fellowship and prayer. God has many names but one of my favorites is Father. A realtionship with Christ is a personal choice, one that doesn’t have to be regretted. We can also know beyond doubt that we are going to heaven. The bible is covered from front to back in promises made and kept by and through Christ. We have a choice to either accept or reject the risen Lord and I will serve the God who came back from the dead not one that is dead. Christ knows us so intimately that scripture says,”even the numbers of hairs on our head are numbered.”, I’d say that He is very interested in us personally. God will also give us what we need, not want, God’s not a vending machine,” Even before we know we have need, God knows”.

“Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will granted unto you.” Matthew 6:33 Go and seek which is best for you Bobbert21. God knows your heart and He will reveal Himself to you. “If my people, who are called by My name will, humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and I will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2Chronicles 7:14

Good Luck on your faith journey.. P.S. Funmail me if you have concerns or questions Blessings to you.

Research, research, research. Visit churches, synagogues, mosques and other religious institutions. Do research on the internet. Start at http://www.onedialog.com and go to other sites. Narrow down your list and then find people who participate in that religion and ask them questions. Then you will be ready to make a decision.

Jesus did not come to establish a religion.. he came to establish a relationship… He is alive.. and is willing to work in our lives… if we are willing to submit to his leadership… Once you find him, you won’t need anything else…

I don’t think gasmanobt3 is contradicting himself, or going back on his words, by sharing. It IS a journey where everyone makes a choice, and who makes that choice without listening to those who are offering to share what they have learned?

Answer #5

Well, actually I was offering him scriptural advice, but the choice is his what to do with it. As with anyone, a person will choose which ever they want. By me giving the biblical point of view it gives him an option not a demand.

You just said to bobbert21: ‘’That’s a journey you must go on by yourself’’…then you went on with giving your advice regarding Christ and him being ‘’the God of the universe’’, which sort of says this is the religion you should follow, by quoting from the Bible and sharing other info regarding.

Basically what i’m saying is you went back on your words of letting him have that opportunity to discover what religion is best for him.

Answer #7

I would suggest that you can try and look up about other religions, and whichever gives you the spiritual belief that you seek.

When converting to another religion you need to be aware that this is the one you feel comfortable with.

Whichever that can give you solid belief that there is a God and that makes sense and that can answer any questions that you may have had that other religions have not been able to answer, and one that can place belief in your heart that this is the one, is the one for you

Answer #8

The best thing to do is to read about religions for yourself. I like Joseph Campbell’s books. Joseph Campbell studys religions past and present looking for meaning, the connotatation (what is meant) vs. denotation (what is said). Campbell has a PBS series “The Power of Myth” that explains many of his ideas about comparative mythology and religion. “The Masks of God” is Campbell’s 4 volume work studying ancient, Eastern, and Western religions.

Some people aren’t religious. Even you don’t feel drawn to any religion it is good to read about religion so you understand what other’s believe.
