Puppy tears up house when alone/

Hi. I just got an 11 month old husky/lab mix yesterday. I guess they forgot to tell me that this bouncing baby boy is awful when left alone. We left him for 1/2 hour and he tore up the kitchen! Any suggestions .? Someone suggested a crate but another said can’t if he’s never been in one . Help !!! I can’t go out the door. He is finer when not alone. Thanks

You will have to work on crate training him…that means using treats to encourage him to go in…allowing him right back out…in…out…in…out…then leaving him for 10 minutes, while you leave the house…then 1/2 hour…building up to however long you are normally gone. DO NOT under any circumstances let him out because he’s crying…(that’s one reason it’s easier to go outside when you put him the crate)…you’ll be defeating your purpose.

Also, keep in mind, both Huskies and Labs are HIGHLY ENERGETIC puppies…both are bright, also…so you need to really work him down with a ball, games, walks, (swimming if he’s a swimmer) etc…to counteract the energy level…a tired dog is a good dog.

He hasn’t acclimated to your enviroment either…that will take a couple of weeks…patient, fair and consistant leadership…

my dog dose the same thing. the minet you walk out the door and you relize you forgot something you open your door and you furnitare is in piaces. but we resently took my dog to the vet and the vet said its just because hes scared something might happen to you or you leave and never come back so you have to comfert him.

it can also depend on how much attention you give him. Not saying you dont give him attention im sure you do. but like more playing, puppy play. Run around with him. and yah crating can be ok, but it can also teach your dog when he is older to bark a lot.

oh boy…you really got a dog that has a lot of energy there…you’ll need to train him and give him LOTS of excercise.. else he’ll continue to tear up your house…

and I’ll take phrannie’s advice if I were you.

my dog was the same but mine cried and barked!!! we just stuck to it, put her in her crate and she cried through out the day when she had he naps and left the door opemn and kept going into her to let her know I will come back then over night I just had to leave her in her crate but I found a chew or a toy helps or a radio on. a toy which keeps them occupied like a kong with treats in it or a marrow bone… with marrow bones when my dog is done with it I stuff it with cheese, keeps them occupies for hours.

I would suggest long walks and playfull nackering excersise before you leave the dog alone as they will b nackered and calmer and more likely sleep.

dont give up, stick to it and in a few weeks months your pup will settle and happy.

You can still crate him, and given the circumstances, I suggest it.

He was obviously not properly trained and it’s going to take time to change his habits now. When you are home, make sure you keep giving him his toys, so that he eventually learns what he is allowed to chew.

He’s acting out when you’re gone…it could be because he was neglected before…you’ll need a lot of patience to right the wrongs.
