allow ripping and tearing in puppies

do puppies really need to be allowed to rip things apart? should they be corrected?he uses his front teeth to rip and tear

Answer #1

They should be allowed to do whatever they want…with their own toys…NOT things that don’t belong to them…Keeping an easily accessable toy box with their things in it, so you can “trade” if the pup gets ahold of the wrong thing.

If he chews furniture, then crating him when you leave will put a halt to that…once past the puppy stuff, he’ll be able to run at large in the house…Most dogs aren’t completely trustworthy alone, until they are 1 1/2 years to 2 years old…

Answer #2

They really should be corrected, because if they grow up thinking that this behaviour is ok, it can escalate to humans, and may develop into agression.

It can be important for dogs, puppies in particular to chew and tear things, especially when teething, but give them suitable chew toys, other things, if swallowed can be digested and may cause health problems.

Best of luck!

my puppy streds and rips up any paper it see’s! I just say no loud and sudden and take it away or put her somewhere else and give her a toy to chew. three no’s should be enough. if you dont nip it in the bud now then they will never know its wrong. a sharp NO or AHH!!! should stear them away from doing it again, or just remove all things that can be chewed or shreaded away from the pup

Answer #5

omg you so need to send your pup to a dog training school in a hurry.

your furnitures are going to love you for it :-P

Answer #6

they should definitely be corrected… unless it is one of their own toys. Puppies learn by ripping and tearing, so give them something specific to rip and tear and dont’ let them destroy your things.

Answer #7

well if its shoes or something of your own correct him. teach him to only chew dog toys.
