What if I found out my Dad smokes pot?

ok. Im 17. I just found out yesterday that my dad smokes weed. I found it in his drawer, and seeds in his trash can. Its not like him at all. Hes a very succesfull buisness man. he has a great family. Why might he be doing this? And what do I do? Am I supposed to say something? Or keep it quiet. Im not really worried about the fact that he smokes it. I honestly dont have a problem with it. But lately every time I leave the house, he says stuff like if I find out your doing drugs you will be in HUGE trouble. But hes the one smoking it.

hahaha thats cool man,you guys should smoke together…dont trip over it weed isn’t all that bad,you wont loose your job or your house and wont end up on the streets, just chill let him chill

CHILL TOGETHER BRO!!!

Answer #2

oh paleaseee gimme a break here.any type of drug is bad,he’s saying that so you dont do it like him,and how can you not be worried?if I found out my mom was doing drugs I would ask my grandma, even though I know, and I would go to my mom,say somebody elsetold me and have a long fight with her…that’ll make any other fight we’ve had look like a small get together conversation on politics!

Answer #3

You must remember, our parents grew up (and possibly hit their peak) during the 60’s and 70’s. Smoking pot was (and in most areas of society, still is) considered “no big deal.” As long as he doesn’t start growing MJ in his closet or growing dreadlocks, I think both you and Mimipalmtree are going to be just fine.

After all, don’t let your parents define you. Define yourself!

Answer #4

hahaha attentionham is awesome. but yeah im 16 and I found out that my dad smoked a week ago. After these people (that leave these comments) talk about it, it doesn’t seem like that big of a deal ..does it? But it is to me. My dad is successful also and it really made me mad when I found this out. why would he keep it so secret? my mom has no idea. she would die if she found out. should I talk to him about it? I dont know I don’t want to. I don’t smoke so I dont know how great/bad it is

Answer #5

I completely disagree with Jesusbaby. Why on Earth would pot threaten his life? Funerals for things like WHAT? Tripping over your stash and hitting your head on the counter?

Answer #6

Your Dad is providing for you and your family and is successful. If he chooses to smoke pot, so be it. He does not owe you an explanation. However, you should talk to him about it if it is bothering you. Secondly, you shouldn’t have been snooping through your Dad’s belongings. If you wouldn’t have snooped, you wouldn’t have known, which, is apparently the way he wants it.

Answer #7

well I understand that he’s still a good family member but I would still confront him. think about his health. and if something is illegal, I think it is for a reason. it might hurt him in the future, and thats great if hes a good family member now but just think he might not been here that much longer… I have been to sooo many funerals for things like this. and I wouldnt be able to live with myself if my dad died and I had the chance to save him.. but do you want you feel is right.

Answer #8

I guess I agree with the above comments. Parents worry if pot will lead to hard drugs for their teenagers - you probably don’t have to worry about that for him! If he’s still an active part of your loving family, and doing OK at work, then a bit of recreational pot is probably no big deal - the fact that he’s not trying really hard to hide it is also positive, as it implies he’s not ashamed or keeping it from your mother. (That would worry me, as a wife!)

But it might help to talk to him about it, not as a challenge (‘Why do you lecture me when you smoke weed anyway?’) but as a mature daughter, wanting to move from the ‘no daughter of mine will ever take drugs’ stage to the stage where the two of you can talk about drugs responsibly as adults.

Answer #9

My dad was the same way about cigarettes. He never smoked in front of me or my brothers. We used to find packs of cigarettes hidden behind the seat of his truck but we never said anything. When he came home smelling of cigarettes he would say he was around smokers.

I interpreted it the same way ganjamasta-42 did. He loved us and wanted the best for us so he didn’t want us to smoke even if he had to be a hypocryte about it.

Answer #10

Well the only reason he is saying that if I find out your doing it is because he dont want you to end up like him… honestly if your really worried about maybe sit down and have a talk with him, but I mean its just pot I wouldn’t worry too much now if it was like crack or something then I would really worry.. but he seems to be doing business and making money so I wouldn’t really make it a problem..

Answer #11

He’s an adult, your under 18. When you turn 18, you make your own decision to smoke or abstain. Don’t throw it in his face, though, that he’s telling you one thing and then doing another. He’s being a good father, and you should quit worrying about trivial matters such as this.

Answer #12

well, things have changed sense then. I dont mind in all. in fact, I have stolen some.

Answer #13

its not a drug!

lol dont listen to what people tell u, its all misleading information you need to do your own research and see for urself

These are some of the comments I have copied from a forum

-pharmaceuticals are known to kill more people than illegal drugs

-marijuana is the number 1 cash crop in the world it serves as a natural medicine and has many other uses thats why they prohibited it so big companies can make more profit thanks to “bad journalism”

-can also help aids patients, aids diminishes appetite have them smoke a joint and they regain their appetite counteracting the illness

-no one can die from smoking cannabis and has been no known deaths compared to everything else including alcohol, tobacco, etc..

I myself have asthma and smoking opens up my airways making it easier to breathe with no side effects when medically legalized in my state I look foward to becoming a patient for prescription marijuana. 12 states have already legalized it along with other countries in the world and more following my job is to educate people that are not aware of the plants uses

re-legalize!

-I did most of my research through websites, books, magazines, and the news norml.org high times magazine etc..

  • theres more to it than just getting high and I believe legalizing it would make this a better world to live in

-God bless the whole crop!

  • and for people that dont smoke, you dont need to smoke it to support it

-all the better reason for the government to legalize.. couple reasons why it should be legalized: -will be removed from black market and stop empowering gang members -medical reasons -would be sold like alcohol, remember alcohol was once prohibited too (in stores away from children, have to be 21+) -would be a law that you cant drive while intoxicated on weed -prison population would lower (prisons are overcrowding with nonviolent offenders) -keep patients from being convicted -would provide millions of jobs for people -would make us an independent country (fuel, etc.., debt free america)

people with an addiction (including hard drugs) shouldnt be thrown in jail, they need help theres more people in jail with mental illnesses than there are in mental institutions

the list goes on

  • the War on Drugs is a failure, its a war on its own people. policies need to be changed we pay billions in taxpayers money to keep the war going and neither side is winning thats just a waste of our tax money I wonder what they do with all that money.. those greedy bastards just sell drugs back onto the street, you can even check urself on that there was a time when there was a cia operation transporting drugs overseas into america the government also provided Rick Ross with plenty of heroin to go around, course making money from it

the truth must be exposed, theyre dirty work must stop!

-Of course we can do something about it, we all just need to unite screw the federal government remember slavery? if no one stood up im pretty sure it would still be going on people were tortured, beaten, killed and thrown in jail but that didnt stop them standing up for their rights eventually slavery was abolished same with alcohol prohibition eventually became re-legalized

  • its like theres some kind of conspiracy going on I sense the government is up to no good and trying to control us. credit cards, money, and now they have chips that can be implanted in skin for uselful reasons but if in the wrong hands well were pretty much fuct they hiding the truth from us its dangerous to be right when the government is wrong they got theyre privacy but we dont. they want to know everything were doing on our leisure time

get up stand up!

  • marijuanas not anti-establishment because its illegal, its illegal because its anti-establishment
