Why do people think my american bull dog/boxer is a pit?

Maybe he looks like one? Or, possibly has some mixed in with him.

Or, they are just ignorant and don’t know how to tell the two breeds apart…?

Yes they do, i agree. At a glance she does look like a pit. its sad sometimes cuz she’s the sweetest, well trained dog i have ever seen. and some people r afraid to come near her

They can be aggressive if not properly raised and trained, however… so can any other dog. The reason people are always more afraid of those specific breeds is because they are large, and can really harm someone if they were to be aggressive.

Sadly most people have no real idea what a Pit Bull Terrier looks like and they think every musclular medium sized bull type dogs are Pit Bulls. I had an English Bull Terrier, which has a completely different look than a Pit Bull, but people constantly thought he was a Pit.

I’m sure you also have to deal with people thinking your dog is aggressive and mean just because of what he looks like. It is very unfair, but the only thing you can do is make sure your dog is a perfect canine citizen and show them how mistaken they are.
