What is this pea-sized lump deep in my underarm?

I have a pea sized hard lump in my left arm pit about an inch above the crevice or bend. It has been there for about a month, not tender to touch, unless you push on it, I am a post menopausal woman of 35, have a full hysto at 25. I do not take hormone subsitutes, never have. The paternal grandmother had breast cancer in her mid 50’s. I am scared to death, I know I need to see the doctor I will call him in the am, but someone please talk to me about this. I had a friend last summer who is 42 who found something similuar and she ended up with breast cancer.

Hi,

I think the important thing here is to keep calm until you can get a proper diagnosis. When I first read your question, I immediately thought that it could be a swollen lymph node. If you’ve been sick recently, this could have occurred. Another possible explanation is a cyst or ingrown hair if you shave your underarms. Both of these are viable possibilities that are much less serious than cancer.

Please keep us updated and good luck.
