Can you have panic attacks in your sleep?

If not what’s can you have whilst sleeping, that wakes you up, that’s similar? Pretty sure it wasn’t because I was dreaming of falling before anyone suggests it. :/ Any ideas?

Answer #1

What are you feeling, exactly? When sleeping, you’re at rest so panic attacks are unlikely unless brought on by a nightmare. Perhaps sleep paralysis is a better possibility?

Answer #2

scary nightmares and when you feel unsecured before going to sleep , but it depends on the location , both can give you panic attacks in your sleep

Answer #3

I think our subconscious never really falls asleep. And if something scares it while we are awake, it continues scaring it after we go to bed. At some point, such creepy things may suddenly flash before our subconscious like a lightening. Perhaps that’s when we have those panic attacks. Fact is we have to face our fears, we mustn’t act like they don’t exist, or they will haunt us at night XD seriously!

Answer #4

night terrors

Thank you! I looked into a bit more - on some weird and wacky website. Apparently you can get them, but not in the REM state of sleep as you’d suspect. It’s your bodies way of coping with things, and processing all of the emotions you put to one side whilst you’re awake. Gosh, I sound like a proper head case now! Oh dear…
