Omg customer called corporate on my coworker bc of me!

A coupla days ago, I came in to work (mcd’s) in a bad mood, but for reasons outside of work. I spent most of my shift cleaning the lobby but was unable to look happy like we’re all supposed to. When my coworker helped me sweep and mop while it got busy, I almost had a breakdown. I mean, I wasn’t angry or anything, just down. I walked around with a long face all day and moped while working. Anyway, a customer saw that and called corporate and said that my coworker treated me bad (which she didn’t). She got into trouble anyway.

I found all that out yesterday from the mgr, who got her out of trouble by explaining to the corporate that my unhappiness had nothing to do with her. Now mgt wants to keep me away from the customers so I spent my entire shift yesterday cleaning the back. Basically the customer screwed me over bc if he had minded his own business, I wouldn’t be in this predicament. The mgr said she can’t have me acting this way in front of customers. That may be true, but who was that customer to make that call based on assumptions? How long will it take to earn back being around customers? How do I earn it back?

Btw, customers complain anbout anything and everything. Shouldn’t they get a life or something?

I just moped while pushing the mop like I had been all day. That’s looking bad?

Yeah, I mean as a customer, I’d also probably be uncomfortable seeing an employee walking around with a long face all day. I wouldn’t do anything though bc I mind my own business.

You work in the customer service field and the customer is ‘never wrong’ (and I say that loosely, because they are often wrong, but you’re not allowed to say that).

This customer was obviously trying to enjoy his meal, and watching you mope around made him feel uncomfortable - if it made him feel that way, guaranteed it was bringing everyone down. That made it ‘his business’ because it was affecting his own mood.

You have to learn to keep your personal business out of the workplace…I know people who have been ‘let go’ for bringing home life into work.
