Dog throwing up blood

Ok, my dog is a corgi/pom-pom mix. He is like 9 or 10. He has had this strange cough for over 2 months. We took him to the vet and they gave us pills. Those didn’t do anything, actully it made it a little worse. We took him back to the vet, they said it could be a heart murmur because his heart sounds a little funny and because of the cough. They gave us 3 different pills. One of the set of pills is heart pills. Ever since he started taking these 3 pill (5 pills a day) he usually throughs up his food every 2 days. about 3 hours ago, he through up this brown-ish. Bloody, gooey stuff. Then about and hour later, he threw up just blood, gooey as well. It looks like quite a lot to. Since its 3:22 am I can’t take him to the vet. I think my parents will take him tomarrow. What is wrong? Should we just put him to sleep? How do I calm him down? Please help!

While he is throwing up don’t give him any food. Just water. This will give his stomach time to settle down. If you think he is well enough to try eating again, you can give him some stage one chicken or turkey baby food. This is very bland and should help him to keep it down. He is an older dog and he may have a heart murmur or heart worms. I would take him to another vet to have a second opinion on him. Hope this helps!

I agree with everyone! You should take him to a different Vet. I hope he is okay!

Here’s a thought - take him to a different vet…if the one you currently have isn’t helping, then you need a second opinion.

You really should try a different vet. My family was fostering a puppy, and he had pneumonia, we took him to the vet, and he didn’t really take aggressive action, and the puppy died. We went another time to that vet and he totally dismissed a lump my dog had, a really hard lump, we tried a different vet, turned out she had a malignant tumor. Though that vet did a really good job of putting down our cat. He’s the vet to go to if you want your pet to die. Anyway off my rant, different vet = very good idea! Is there maybe a hotline you could go to for pets you could call?

I agree that a different Vet may be the answer here. Your dog is is getting older, and it sounds like there is more going on here than a “heart murmer”. Heart murmers are something found in YOUNG dogs, not old ones. I thnk your Vet is off the mark on whatever is going on with her.

Did they do blood work? Did they xray her chest? Both these things are routine on old dogs.

I agree with a different Vet. Some are in it for the money more than the pet. Some are better than others just like doctors. Some diagnose better than others.

I have a wonderful Vet that is excellent on treatment and price, but it took me years to find this guy. I had to change Vets about 4 times.
