Nothing seems to be healthy

Is there any foods out there other than completly natural foods that dont have high fructose corn syrup in them?

Answer #1

Generally everyone agrees that refined sugar of any kind is not good for you. Refined sugar reflects empty calories, calories with no fiber, vitamins, or minerals. Many in the nutrition field believe that High Fructose Corn Syrup is especially bad because of the way it is processed in the body. Some researchers even blame the recent rise in obesity and diabetes on consumption of HFCS; the rise in both of these conditions coincided with the shift from cane sugar to HFCS in the American diet though this does not prove a causal relationship.

In the US HFCS is cheap. There are tarifs on imported sugar cane and cane sugar while our government pays subsidies to corn growers. This is why most sodas and processed foods are made with HFCS here. Foods made with HFCS also generally have longer shelf life than those made with other sweeteners.

The best way to avoid HFCS is to cook your own food. When you prepare you own meals you get to decide what goes into them. I do occasionally enjoy a Jones Soda or a Mexican Coke because both of these are made with cane sugar instead of HFCS.
