Is it normal to feel sick after getting your blood taken?

I had to get blood work done to check my thyroid levels or something, I’ve gotten it done before but have never felt as sick as I did this time. I got like three vials, pretty small, and my stomach hurt after, i felt dizzy, was sweaty, pale, hearing went and all i heard was ringing, head hurt, and today I still feel a bit dizzy and my stomach still really feels upset. Is it normal to feel this way the day after? And, I do have anxiety, so I’m sure I made it worse than it needed to be, but obviously its pretty dang hard to control that lol.

t’s definitely psychological. And yes, people do feel sick after having their blood taken. Some people even faint. But you can get rid of it - of the anxiety - when doing it more often. Confrontation therapy. Talk to a shrink. And then, if this is suitable for you, go and become a blood donor.

I was extremely afraid of needles, and I almost fainted a couple of times, only from getting a vaccination. But then I went donating blood regularly and now it’s totally relaxed every time. I’m not afraid of any doctors who will give me a shot. I have been all panic when I was a kid. But now all is fine. And when you donate blood, you can tell yourself you are doing it for a cause, for the well-being of someone who really needs it. That is an extra motivation. I’m sure that you’ll find that after being a blood donor for a year or two, a little blood take at the doctors will not shock you at all. Make sure you drink a lot before you go and also eat sufficiently but don’t go there stuffed full.

yes, it’s very very normal, apart from the psychological aspects, your body is losing something. generally it needs to be of larger quantities than a vile. but anxiety does play a huge part in it, no different from going to the dentist (i am personally a huge wimp with dentists)

also, it can depend on the phlebotomist technique, some take it painlessly some, not so… just relax, it’s a short lived experience.

donating blood will decrease the amount of blood platelets and wbc count which plays a major role in our immune system , it will take a week to recover to the previous state , so please try to follow doctors advice
