Is Nirvana from buddhism better than heaven from christainty?

Answer #1

Nirvana doesn’t promise roads paved with gold…so, in that sense, “christian heaven” is better.

But, depending on if you’re a man or woman and your own interpretation, the Muslim afterlife with 72 virgins…well, it could be grapes of course depending on what translation you believe but it’s food for thought too eh?

I guess it all depends: are you looking for “no wind” or something more materialistic in your afterlife?

Answer #2

Depends on what you mean by better. I rather like the concept of Nirvana, but I’m not sure everyone would like the idea of existing as a collective whole. You lose all sense of individuality. Which is rather important in Western culture. While collectivism is prized in the East. Not so surprising their respective ideas of the perfect end would look so different?

Answer #3

i guess it depends on the person’s beliefs. i kinda think its better, but everyone has their own opinions

Answer #4

I guess materialism seems to disrupt peace of mind

Answer #5

I believe that both are states of mind brought on by a shift in paradgm. Or a total shift in perception. The Buddha found his by going into the forest and testing his human form and learning truths through trial and error. When he awok under the Bhodie tree he was indeed a changed man. His perception was changed, and he went out and taught a great many people. Although most Christians view Heaven as an actual place where we will Dwell with our Creator, metaphorically speaking it seems to me that it is a state of mind also brought on by a changed perception. How does one enter Heaven? Through pearly Gates. Pearls. . .the only precious Jewell created through pain and eventually death. Most major changes in my life have had great pain involved in the proccess of change and death. . .of an old ideal or paradigm which leads to a rebirth, or being born again, such as Christians. It is why Christ represents the Pearly gates. The jewell created through great pain and eventually death. . . So it is through Christ we are united with our Creator which equals heaven. :) So heaven is the feeling of consious contact or partnership with God. And hell is the feeling of Consious seperation from, and Christ is the one who compltes the circle from God to man. It is a beautiful thing. :) God Creates man. Man Chooses knoledge over relationship with God. God tries and tries to teach man. Man doesnt listen, so Gods give man a way to have relationship with him through what Jesus did on the Cross. Amazing. :)

Answer #6

so…. a metephorical gate made out of pearls….?

Answer #7

I really like your comparison of “they Pearly gates” , pearls and death, very interesting.

Answer #8

It’s all perception. As a Buddhist, I can’t see “Heaven” - to me, it doesn’t exist, so how can anything that does not exist be better than what I am destined for? Nirvana is a state of bliss - and, as all things, is actually temporary, as we one day begin our cycle of death and rebirth again, but to be able to reach that state, it helps you to maintain your happiness in your new lives, as the knowledge never ends.

Answer #9

I am quoting these from what I have learned through books I have read, but also through experience from changes made in my own life.

Answer #10

No, I really dont think so. Cuz I dont believe in Nirvana, but Christianity is the true true truth! ;) I really cant wait for Heaven =D

Answer #11

why don’t u believe in nirvana but u beleave in heaven?

The true truth? Thats a bit redundant lol

Answer #12

And to top it off, there is no real seperation from God, Only a our perceptions of a seperation. You cannot seperate from something infinite, because God is you.

Answer #13

Lol I know its redundant but a lot of people say that their religion is true, but mine is the true truth! Ahah. And I believe in Heaven bcuz its real, while Nirvana isnt…

Answer #14

You can’t say that Heaven is real and Nirvana isn’t. This is your opinion, not fact.

Answer #15

Im sorry you think that. I dont want to argue about it, but it is true..Thats just the way it is

Answer #16

I’m not saying that Heaven isn’t real, what I am saying is that there is no proof to its existence as is there is no proof to the existence of Nirvana, Hell, Paradise, or the afterlife in general. Believe what you wish, but don’t make claims which you cannot back up with physical, scientific proof.

Answer #17
