Need advice from Past and Present Navy Sailors

How do I make the most out of being in the navy; you know like school, buying houses, getting a career going in the civilian sec. I’ve been in the navy for three months. Right now I’m in A school for Fire Controlman (FC).

Answer #1

Get qualified as quickly as you can. Start using Tuition Assistance as much as possible.

Buying a house: Don’t until you get BAH. (E-5, or E-4 over 4 years). Then go in with a group of trustworthy guys and all buy the house so you can combine your BAH.

Never re enlist. Rememer the acronym PAPER CLIP.

Once you’re on the boat kiss the butt of every Chief around you. Always bring them coffee, and end each sentence with, “Yes Chief!” They really dig that stuff, and it really helps on your evals.

I’m a submariner so I don’t know much about you FC’s.
