What is the National Insurance number used for in the UK?

and how old will i be when i get mine?

Answer #1

Apparently it goes towards benefits like health care. I don’t think application is determined by age - you need it to work, but if your parents registered you under the child benefit tax, then you’re automatically registered and should receive your card sometime before your 16th birthday.

Answer #2

as colleen said your get it around your 16th birthday and its just used for benefits and tax.

to be honest you dont need your card, my dad made me memorise my number and cut the card up with scissors.

if anyone gets hold of your number they can become you.

ive known my number off by heart since i was your age.
