Why isn't my dog pooping in the right spot?

I have this dog. well, he’s not even a year old so I guess he’s a pup. at night I fetch him from out in the backyard where he remains for the day (except when I take him for a walk of course) and place him in the laundry room with his mother. he often craps not on the paper I lay out for him but rather right at the door. I walk in the next day and the bottom of the door always scraps his mess and it smears like a brown rainbow. now my question is this: how do I get him to stop doing this. why can’t he know to do it on the area where it’s meant to be done? weird how he knows to pee there but not crap hehe.

Get a crate for the dog and keep him in it when he is alone, take him from the crate right out to the spot you want him to go,give him a treat if he goes in the right spot.

Well, the placement in front of the door says to me that this is a pup that prefers to go outside to do his business…the “paper” is meaningless to him…Crate him, and get him out first pop in the morning. He’s plenty old enough to hold it all night.

Pooping and peeing are not the same thing, to a dog…they don’t see the similarities in elimination.
