My 6 Month Old and Cows Milk

I was wondering if I could introduce 3 oz of cows milk (1% or Skim) to my daughter. I was thinking mixed with 1oz of water?!?!? I would like to use it before her afternoon nap. I don’t want her to be too stuffed before her nap. When she wakes up I give her her dinner (meat & veggie). She right now Is having 3 solid servings a day. 1 fruit in the morning, 1 veggie in the afternoon, and 1 veggie & 1 meat for dinner. She does have about 6oz of formula between meals and before bed time at night.

Considering she is crawling and finger feeding herself the Gerber Graduates little crunches (snack) I didn’t see why it would be harmful for her? I wanted to get some input first.

Thanks ladies!

Cows milk does not have the necessary vitamins that babies need for their brain to develop.I have a one year old and I didn’t give her cows milk until she was 11 months old…also if you do decide to go on and give it to her mixing it with water would not be the best idea because it wouldn’t have the amount of calories she needs a day instead I advise mixing it with formula.Good luck:)

ohh not to mention… incase the osteoporosis arguement comes up…

countries that consume little to no dairy products have only trace ammounts of osteoporosis… whereas countries like america, where dairy products are consumed daily, have skyrocketting ammonts of osteoporosis.

WHY? because yes… the calcium in milk can help prevent osteoporosis. true. they get away with saying this because its a play on words.

…calcium requires MAGNIESIUM to digest itself. there is only a trace ammount of magnesium found in cows’ milk. SO, when you drink cows milk for calcium, your putting excess ammounts of calcium into your body, and it has no way to digest itself…SO, it leaches calcium from your bones to aid in the digestion process. which over time causes osteoporosis.

not to mention all the growth hormones your putting into your body from drinking cows milk… look into it more, it’ll terrify you into never drinking milk again… let alone feeding it to your baby.

…eating dark green veggies, eggs, or cereal fortified with magniesum w/ soymilk is a much healthier way to get calcium…

Why the anti-milk rants?

Milk is an excellent food stuff if you’re not lactose intolerant (which is genetic and more common in some populations than others).

Anyway, your baby should be coming on for nearly a year before you give her milk to drink, but you can certainly start adding milk to her cooked foods now or try very small servings plain yogurt. (Some studies recommend milk to drink from 9 months, others from a year. Watch out for signs of colic.)

DON’T dilute milk with water, ever! Also a baby needs proportionally more fat than an adult for brain development and should drink whole milk until at least four.

babies that consume cows milk have a higher rate of SIDS, and developing obesity and diabetes as adults… do your baby a favor,… keep it on what nature intended for him/her… HUMAN MILK.

…if your going to feed it cows milk, why not feed it dogs milk, or pig milk? cows milk is meant for baby cows. human milk is meant for baby humans.

…cows milk has nutrients in it that are meant to turn a 200lb calf into a 2,000lb cow, with FOUR STOMACHS.

its not natural.

No - never give a 6 month old baby cow’s milk, she can’t digest it.

To add to that, when you do introduce your child to cow’s milk, it has to be whole milk, not skim or partly skim.
