Is cows milk better than follow on milk for my 15 month son?

Hi,
My control freak of a sister is suggesting that I should give follow on toddlers milk to my 15 month son rather than whole cows milk , becouse it has iron and whole cows milk doesnt. I refused untill I see my health visitor about it . I feed my son a health balanced meals with veggies and cheese dips for snacks but still she just wont leave me alone and stop intervering with sons life I know you’s might think oh just take no notice of her or but shes my big sister and sooo enoying at times that I wish I wasnt related to her So please feel free tp give me your opinions and advice Thank you xxx

Cow’s milk is recommended for children when they turn 1. Whole milk is best because 1 year olds need the fat from it for their brain development. All 3 of my kids drank whole milk when they were 1…they still do now.

As for your sister…tell her that you’ll consider what she’s saying but that the ultimate decision is up to you…and ONLY you. When she gives you her opinion thank her and then make the best decision for you and your son. She might be your big sister but you are your son’s mother…you make the decisions in your son’s life. Listen to her advice, thank her, consider it and then make a decision.

Cow’s milk is usually introduced around a child hits 1 year.. So giving it to your 15 month old is perfectly fine.. it is helping your sons teeth and bones. as far as it not having iron in it, your child is now eating a variety of things that do have iron in it to make up for the loss of it in your cow’s milk, however vitamin D milk is the best for a child because your sons brain NEEDS the fat in the milk to develop correctly

I asked my pedititrican about goat’s milk and she said not to because it kids can get folic acid deficiancey and she said to stick to whole milk.

Answer #4

The best thing next to breast milk is goats milk!!! Formula milk and cows milk is actually not that good for us…if cow milk is fermented to kefir, it is good, because then the protein is broken up. Maybe you should read up more and know more than your sister:) an interesting book to read is “the maker’s diet”.

Stefani is correct. How about rather then trying cow’s milk use goats milk. It’s more nutritious and does not cause as much allergies as cows milk does. I know my mother gave it to my brother because he couldn’t drink her milk when he was young.
