More fit, do a lot of cardio work. Specifically jogging or running. While walking is healthy, it doesn’t raise your heart rate high enough, for long enough. Keeping your heart rate up while you’re doing cardio work is key to burning excess fat.
If you just want to tone, and not build. Use light weights, and lots of reps. Heavier weights tear muscle, thus when they heal the muscle is larger. Light weights with multiple reps tone the muscle you already have.
If you don’t have access to a gym, you could easily do things around the house. Push-ups are some of the best exercise you can do for free. They target such a large range of muscle on your body. Sit-ups are obviously good for your stomach. If you have “love-handles” when you come up from your sit-ups, twist. Turn your body to each side so that you work out your sides as well.
Do lunges or stair-stepping for your thighs and your butt.
Stand on your toes on an edge of something (like a step on a stairwell) and raise yourself up and down using your calves. Make sure to tighten the muscles when you go completely up, and completely down.
There are a lot of things you can do that don’t require a gym membership to stay in shape, or get in shape.
You could also consider yoga, that’s supposed to help out a lot as well.
There’s more to it than just working out though. Research information for your diet. We all know it’s healthy to eat many times a day. A small serving about every 2 hours if possible. It promotes a strong metabolism. If you’re body doesn’t get food as often as it likes, it essentially thinks that it has to store the food, because it doesn’t know when it’s going to get it again.
Go to google, and research the glycemic index. It will give you a list of foods that are low in glycol, and healthy to eat on a diet that will allow you to burn more fat, eat healthily, and improve your metabolism.
Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water, try to cut out sodas completely. If you can’t do that, drink sprite, it’s low in calories and low in sugar. It’s actually a “healthier” soft drink.
Good luck!
