Should I tell my mom I think I'm bulimic?

I’m 13 and 103 pounds I’ve purged a few times recently but I’m not sure if I should tell my mom because I don’t want to worry her if it’s just all in my head.

If you are at all worried about this then it is not in your head, so don’t worry about that. Anything you think and feel justifies being talked about, so even if this does not turn out to be major bulimia, it is still something which is an issue for you an not usual behaviour.

I would definitely advise telling your mom- she will appreciate it so much that you can go to her about this (a lot of people with eating disorders would blatently deny it and be secretive) and will be able to help you, whether herself or by getting you in touch with a professional who can help.

I wouldn’t necessarily go up to her and say ‘ I’m bulimic’, but instead ‘I don’t want to worry you or make this into a massive deal, but I wanted to talk to you as I have noticed recently that I have had a few issues with food and am worried about it as it has gotten to a level I think it bad, because I have purged once or twice recently’. Then you can hopefully have an open discussion about it and how you feel and decide what may help you.

It is so great you feel you can talk to your mom about this and that you are sensible enough to realise this is something that is not healthy behaviour. If you get help now then you could stop yourself becoming majorly bulimic, so do try and talk to your mom. If you can’t find the words to tell her face to face, then write her a letter. Good luck!

you should definitely tell someone about this, i’ve tried bulimia and anorexia and never told anyone so i didnt get help and i still have the urge to do it sometimes and almost go through with it. if you ever think you have a problem its always best to talk to someone about them, it helps alot

Between your mother & you., And with good medical help you can over come this. A mother will support you, cry with you and for you, try to understand you and at times even get tough with you. The road ahead will not be an easy one but it is far better than the alternative…
